Pleats Please! Trend: Summer 2011

Following on from the ballet trend in February, I’m bringing you one of my favourite trends this season; the pleat. This trend works in both stiff and flowing fabrics, and below are my favourite designers supporting this must have. This is bound to continue into the winter too (either in the evening with chunky heels or wooly tights and flats for the day). This trend is currently all over the stores, my favourite three are at the bottom!

Get your hands on this trend, my favourite pleated pieces:

Summer Brights from Zara

Summer is here, and this season is all about brights brights brights!

Without a doubt the best high street shop supporting the bright trend is Zara, their shop is full of it.

Will you take this seasons trend seriously? Wear it and enjoy the sunshine!

Part 2…

  • An obsession with straps and bandaging gives dramatic tension.
  • Colour: between Burberry’s Crayola brights and Louise Gray’s foil-dotted plaid mohair, there is a resplendent feast of colour. Jonathan Saunders’ William Morris-inspired prints in turquoise, coral and leaf green were a real standout.

  • Great new looks for modernists included the long tunic over flaring trousers in plays of sheer and print.
  • Silhouettes have simplified and purified. This is a season of evening trousers matched with fancy blouses, of demure sheath-like dresses with high necks and long sleeves.

Some interesting trends coming this Autumn from London; over the next few weeks I will be exploring my favourite designers in more depth..

Part 1…

  • Following seasons of cosy rusticity and utility wear for day, and thigh-skimming cocktailwear for night, London designers are now focussing on elaborately detailed and seriously grown-up chic.

  • There is a fetishistic edge to the beautifully crafted clothes – see Giles, Topshop Unique, Antonio Berardi and Marios Schwab.

  • At Donna Karan and Victoria Beckham new shapes emerged like the wrap skirt, the midi length and a u-turn of the body con va-va-voom trend that dominated last winter.

Trend – the Black Cut Out Dress

If the little black dress is to be ‘cut out’ this winter… that’s fine by me! A few designers showing the look for Autumn Winter 2011:

I Heart Lace

I absolutely LOVE lace. It also seems to be everywhere at the moment. On the edge of sleeves, covering jackets, seaming cushions and exploding off dresses. (Poking about in H&M yesterday I found an incredible 3D lace dress, will put it on here when they get it on their site..!)

Lace is all over Vogue too. I just had a quick flick through March whilst at work (naughty) and it was rammed full. I love it! Nude + lace = My Heaven. I am desperate to find some vintage lace dresses and do them up!

Here are a few lace snapshots from my favourite blogs/websites:
